About Casting for Courage
Casting for Courage is a Western New York nonprofit that brings our community together every August to support children and families facing pediatric cancer.
What began as a single day of fishing has grown into one of Grand Island's most meaningful annual events. Each year, local charter captains take pediatric cancer patients and their families out on the water for a private morning tournament, a few hours of joy, courage, and calm during the hardest fight of their lives. In the afternoon, the event opens to the public for food, raffles, a silent auction, kids' activities, and a whole community showing up for one another.
Since our first event, Casting for Courage has raised tens of thousands of dollars for local families and the organizations that serve them. In 2026, we are proud to be hosted at the Buffalo Launch Club on Grand Island, presented by Anchor Marine, with the Launch Club generously donating the venue, food, and drinks so that even more of every dollar reaches the families we support.
Our Mission
To raise funds, awareness, and hope for children facing pediatric cancer in Western New York, and to remind every family in the fight that their community is behind them.
Who We Support
-
P.U.N.T.
P.U.N.T. provides direct financial and emotional support to families battling pediatric cancer in Western New York, covering the gaps insurance doesn't, easing the daily burden of treatment through their Helping Hands program, and giving families room to breathe during the hardest moments of their lives.
-
Kaely's Kindess
Kaely's Kindness provides practical, peer and social support for young women fighting and living cancer. All donations from this event will go back to our girls and ensuring we are meeting their needs as they are fighting cancer.
-
Catching Dreams
Catching Dreams puts children on the water for joy-filled, therapeutic days of fishing that are the heart of what Casting for Courage is all about, and coordinates the volunteer captains who make our morning tournament possible.
